Video source: how to implement firewire video camera?

#1

Hello DMF people,

I was wondering if there is a useful method to get my firewire microscope camera to work with the microdrop software. Our USB webcam was detected by the microdrop software instantly and it works. But the camera is a 10 years old webcam, the picture quality is poor and the magnification is 1. So it it would be nice to use our firewire microscope camera.

Do you have any suggestions?

  • software firewire-to-usb converter?
  • firewire plugin for python/microdrop?
  • buy a new camera?

My cam is a PIKE F-100C (firewire) from Allied Vision Technologies:

Have a nice day,

Any camera that is supported by GStreamer should work (http://gstreamer.freedesktop.org/).

I haven’t tested much beyond the Microsoft Lifecam Studio (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/lifecam-studio/Q2F-00013). You can usually pick these up for ~$70.
