Microdrop v1.0rc0

Hi all,

I just posted a release candidate, Microdrop v1.0rc0, to the server:

http://microfluidics.utoronto.ca/downloads/microdrop-1.0rc0.exe

We’ve been using this version here in the lab for the past couple of weeks. It offers many new features and bug fixes (change log: http://goo.gl/CHR6av). If there are no reported issues in the next couple of weeks, we will officially push out v1.0.

Note that you will also need to install the latest control board plugin (change log: http://goo.gl/vu1fji). Select the menu item “File/Manage plugins” and click on the “Download plugin” button.

I’ve added information to the wiki on the new system calibration wizards:

and the new anti-aliasing filter shield:

I’ve also added the shield to the electronics zip file available on the build instructions page, but for those who have already ordered PCBs and want one, I’ve posted the gerber files in a format compatible with Seeed Studio’s $9.90 Fusion PCB service:

Hi Ryan,

I’m trying to order the shield board from Seeed, and there are a few questions about PCB manufacture I’m not sure about. Was wondering if you could give me some guidance?

They are asking for the minimum trace/space (in mm) and also the minimum hole size (also mm). They also have a category called “Via solder mask” where the options are “solder mask cover” and “solder mask opening”. Any idea on what I should specify for these?

Hi Mindy,

Below are the trace spacings and hole sizes. For the vias, I interpret
that as whether or not you have solder mask covering the vias or not.
The included gerbers have solder mask covering the vias (I think this
is the default for KiCad).

Current general settings:
Minimum value for tracks width: 0.254 mm
Minimum value for vias diameter: 0.889 mm
Minimum value for microvias diameter: 0.508 mm

Hi Michael,

I had all the same values on that form as you indicated. I just referred back to most of the specs I had used when printing the other DropBot boards.

I still haven’t been able to submit my order- -they asked for information about minimum trace and hole size on the quote form (which Ryan answered above), but haven’t received a quote yet. I realized that it’s their Chinese New Year holiday (Seeed is based in China) so that may be why they haven’t responded. In the meantime, I’m pricing having the board printed from Gold Phoenix.
